Ref. Prof. Dr. Paul Hong: “UBF Europe mission is rooted in the great historical flows of Christian mission”
By Rev. Paul Hong, Ph. D., Europe UBF Coordinator, Professor, University of Toledo, USA
This book is the collection of testimonies, lecture notes and prayerful assessments of UBF mission work over the past 40 years. At the beginning of UBF Mission in Europe, Korean female nurses had an important role. Later, students and business professionals joined. A growing number of European nationals take leadership roles. This UBF mission, therefore, shows how God used these pioneers to rebuild the people of Europe. It is noteworthy to document the details of this UBF work for the future reference. In doing so, we reflect on the past, assess the present and build for the future.
Reinhold Niebuhr said, “Nothing which is true or beautiful or good, makes complete sense in any immediate context of history; therefore we must be saved by faith”. Each Christian mission movement operates in its unique historical context. UBF Europe Mission is also rooted in the great historical flows of Christian mission which go all the way back to the Biblical times. We recognize how much we are indebted to God and to the forerunners of faith that went ahead of us for who we are and what we do. The meaning of this work may make perfect sense only in God’s time. Until then, may we humbly learn and grow more for Christ and his kingdom.
